Club meeting of October 17, 2013. Upcoming events and our speaker Elwood Palmer

Todd called the meeting to order. We discussed our upcoming events: October 27 the Rotary Fall Hayride and Bonfire at Camp Manatoc and the club mixer at Red Horse Winery on November 21. Tom Craig shared we have 25 so far signed up to attend the October event and attendees should bring a chair as there are not any chairs set up around the bonfire area. We will be doing updates on our membership packets to have them available both at the event and to hand to invitees.

Our speaker was Elwood Palmer. Mr. Palmer shared he will be with the city 21 years next year. He talked about some of the challenges faced day to day as the Service Director of Barberton. Our city is like many others trying to take care of its citizens with less-less available funds and less staff. He also discussed the importance of an upcoming issue on the November 5th ballot: Issue 8, an income tax levy that would raise taxes from 2 percent to 2.25 percent. The money raised  will be only used for street maintenance.
