Club meeting of March 13 was called to order by president, Todd Wallace. Our speaker Honorable Linda Teodosio.

Judge Teodosio was recognized as our guest, and our speaker at todays meeting. She is a Summit County Juvenile Court Judge. Judge Teodosio shared some of the programs available in the Summit County Juvenile Court system. She shared that the Juvenile Court works with youths under the age of 18 but can work with youthes up to the age of 21. She highlighted several of the alternative programs the court uses their purpose being to divert the young person from engaging in more serious infractions. Ohio law provides the courts whenever possible to have their dealing with kids to be informal to minimize contact with the system.
Judge Teodosio talked about the Responder Program — a collaborative involving the Akron city schools, a community mental health provider, and the Summit County Juvenile Court. The program has served approximately 100 youth and families since it began in the 2009-10 school year and Summit County officials estimate that 85% of the cases have been closed successfully.
She launched the Family Resource Center to provide case management and referral services for youth, paying particular attention to youth returning to the community following a placement in a juvenile correctional facility. She implemented the Special Community Service Project, where youth charged with misdemeanors are ordered, as part of their community service, to earn money to purchase toys, food and school supplies that are given to the needy, and the Court in the Community, where curfew violators and truants have their hearings conducted in neighborhood community centers or their schools.
