The meeting was called to order by club president, Denny Liddle. Guests were recognized and included Aaron McMullen, and our speakers Shon Christy & Dan Reynolds. In honor of Veterans Day, next week our club will recognize our current and past Barberton Rotary Club member veterans. Our club will be visited by Jack Young. Jack is the PDG 2005-06 Ohio Rotary District 6630. Our speaker at next weeks meeting will be Ann Otto, author of Yours in a Hurry (a historical novel).
 
Denny read a thank you from Barberton Beautification for our donation of $500 to Mum Fest. Selena Myers shared some of the upcoming club events: 11/19 the Akron Children's Hospital Tree Festival, 12/3 is Wild Lights at the Akron Zoo. Further details regarding these events can be found on the events section of the club website.
 
Jim Sawin introduced our speakers. Shon Christy is the president of Focial Point Social Media and a board member of Akron Rotary Camp. Dan Reynolds is the director of Camping Services at Akron YMCA. Shon spoke of the Akron Rotary Club involvement in Akron Rotary Camp. Dan spoke about the Akron Rotary Camp, its history, programs, and involvement with the YMCA. The camp was founded in 1924 by Akron Rotary Club members and was staffed by club members.In 1995, the collaboration with the Akron Area YMCA began and continues today. Rotary Camp further expanded its collaboration with the Akron Area YMCA in the spring of 2013. The YMCA’s Phoenix Alternative School developed an school program for children with emotional disabilities at Rotary Camp. Hilton and Lehner Cabin have been turned into classrooms for the school year. The school opened on April 8th with three students. Primary funding for the Camp’s budget comes from the Rotary Club of Akron. The Club raises funds through private donations, grants and fundraisers.
