Club Meeting of March 19
The meeting was called to order by club president, Nick Wladyczak. Our guests included our speakers, Patti Cleary and Shawna Jones from Barberton City Schools as well as Dennis O'Connell, Jim Sawin and Brenda's grandson.
Announcements included:
Denny Liddle: Our club will be selling Barbertonopoloy. The planned release is November with an historic theme. The Save the Date cards have been printed for the Golf Outing. Denny will send the labels list to Ruth to be forwarded to our club members for review of names to be removed or edited. The outing date is June 5th.
Kim Buehler announced there will be 4 students from Manchester HS participating in our 4 Way Test Speech Contest to be held at next weeks meeting. Kim also shared that there have been changes made to the contest format.
Nick shared that he and Don Kaser will be attending the District 6630 Grants Training Seminar that will be held March 24.
Dennis O'Connell shared news of a fund raising event for the Magical Theatre : a Trivia Night Fundraiser. More information can be found on the theatres website under upcoming events. Also,hands will be needed to help empty the building that houses the theatre so renovation can begin. The work dates include: March 31, April 1,2,11,12. A sign up sheet will be prepared.
Our speakers Patti Cleary and Shawna Jones presented the State of the Schools. Shawna Jones, the new treasurer shared the financials that included the schools have refunded a portion of the 2008 bond series saving the taxpayers money. Also, they were under budget in construction leaving permanent improvement dollars for facility improvements.
Patty Cleary shared that the Board of Ed has put together a strategic plan for the system. The process was started in 2014, and includes a mission statement, beliefs and 5 goal areas.
